Human Rights Issues
Native American Women are murdered and sexually assaulted at rates as high as ten times the national average, a crime overwhelmingly committed by individuals outside the native community.
In 2018, only 116 of the 5,712 cases of murdered and missing Indigenous women were logged into the Department of Justice’s nationwide database.
UIHI identified five-hundred and six unique cases of missing and murdered American Indian and Alaska Native women and girls across the 71 selected cities; one-hundred and twenty-three (25%) were missing persons cases, two-hundred and eighty (56%) were murder cases, and ninety-eight (19%) had an unknown status.
We need to recognize the problem with thousands of indigenous women who have gone unrecognized, ignored, and unprotected.

“Reproductive rights are essential for women to enjoy their human rights. These rights are centered on women’s ability to make the best choices for their lives, including around the number of children they have, if any, and the spacing between their children’s births. Reproductive rights include prenatal services, safe childbirth, and access to contraception. They also include access to legal and safe abortion. Abortion bans violate the rights to be free from violence, to privacy, to family, to health, and even the right to life. And bans are most devastating for people of color, young people, and marginalized communities, who already have trouble accessing health care and other needed services. Governments should trust women to know what is best for their bodies, their physical and mental health, and their lives.”

“Since January 2023, state legislators have introduced more than 400 anti-trans bills — more than the number introduced in the previous four years combined, according to the ACLU. At least 36 bills introduced in the past three and a half months have become law, surpassing the total number for all of 2022… Many of the bills, including restrictions on trans girls in school athletics and bans on gender-affirming care for minors, are similar to ones introduced last year. But new targets have also emerged, such as drag shows and gender-affirming care for adults… The American Medical Association, the American Psychological Association, the Endocrine Society and other major medical organizations oppose restrictions on gender-affirming care. The American Academy of Pediatrics released a statement in August that called such care “medically necessary and appropriate” for some minors and criticized the “rampant disinformation” spread by those seeking restrictions” -The Washington Post
In November 2022, the Lemkin Institute for Genocide Prevention issued a statement voicing “its concern over the growing number of laws introduced in the United States that target transgender individuals and the transgender community. Anti-trans hostility in the US has become a staple of the Republican Party’s election strategy and is clearly being used to stoke voters’ fears of a changing world by raising the specter of a malevolent polluting force tied to liberalism, cosmopolitanism, and democracy. The Lemkin Institute believes that the so-called “gender critical movement” that is behind these laws is a fascist movement furthering a specifically genocidal ideology that seeks the complete eradication of trans identity from the world.”
Trans rights are, undeniably, human rights. To stand idly by while our trans brothers and sisters are attacked by the state for simply existing, is complacency. It is time that we stand up in solidarity with the trans community by taking direct action against these fascist ideologies and reclaiming our democracy. NO MORE voting for politicians that cause direct harm to our fellow humans.

“As of September 2024, nearly 42,000 Palestinians had been killed in Gaza according to the Gaza Ministry of Health, the majority women and children. The number of those under the rubble and others who have died from starvation, illness, infection, and disease may be higher.
Almost all civilians in Gaza are displaced, with most crammed into an area that consists of just 3 percent of Gaza’s territory. Nearly all suffer from hunger. Children have no schools and face trauma. The majority of buildings are damaged or destroyed. Entire neighborhoods have been razed to the ground.” -human rights watch
“The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has caused immense suffering, with countless individuals displaced, harmed, and killed over the years. Tensions heightened on October 7, 2023, when Hamas attacked Israel, leading to Israeli retaliation and worsening the conflict. This escalation has created a severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza, with 2.8 million people, including 1.2 million children, in need of assistance amidst airstrikes and bombings.” - human rights careers
